What matters is to know how to see,
To know how to see without thinking,
To know how to see when seeing
And not think when seeing
Nor see when thinking.
—Fernando Pessoa (translator’s name misplaced, apologies).

Pessoa was a poet, not a photographer, but that poem could pass as a photographer's creed.

This is the view from the door to my apartment. This is the hallway through which I have entered the world from “home” (whatever that means) for the last fourteen years. I don’t always see this hallway. When I pass through the portal I’m usually thinking.

Today, amidst lists, tasks, and errands, I paused to see.
