Sept 23
The calm before the storm. The boats were tied up in Eastern Passage today. I expect the cruise ships that were due here this weekend changed course so they could ride out the hurricane.
It has been raining most of the day. The wind has picked up now (8:45 pm). I can hear it in the trees in the back yard. It's going to be a wild night. I am hoping that we don't lose power for too long.
The track has moved slightly to the east today, it is now supposed to make landfall in Cape Breton, and that is over 200 km from where I am, so it shows how big this storm is. The talk today is that Fiona will be a historic storm for Canada. The people from Cape Breton will talk about Fiona they way people from HRM talk about memories of Hurricane Juan. Juan blew thru here in 2003, it came onshore just outside of Halifax. Where I was living at the time, we were without power for 24 hours. Many others were without power for 7 - 10 days.
It is supposed to be over with around noon tomorrow, so I am hoping to get out later to get some wave photos.
