Derailed

Despite appearances this is not a steam engine. Instead - left to right - it is a hot water boiler, a pizza oven and a brazier. All have been built by the fantastically handy inventive M, whose partner J is explaining how it all works to another friend (out of picture).

I had no intention of being anywhere near this property today, but an urgent text first thing resulted in a dash down to Dunedin to collect a sick friend from the airport, deliver her to her daughter and then drive her husband home to North Otago. Confused? Yep, me too. I just did as I was asked…

Anyway, Bean needed a pit stop on the return trip, so said husband and I ducked into J and M’s place on the off chance they’d be home. M was sailing on the harbour, but J was there. We had a wonderful 20 minutes in the sunshine wandering around their inspirational home and garden.

The water boiler, pizza oven and brazier were created over the years by M as a series of birthday presents for J. He’s a keeper.
