Fluted Bird's Nest #2
Another visit to the colony of Fluted Bird's Nest - not deep inside a damp mysterious woodland, these are growing on the edge of a local roadside lay-by. This time I took my tripod and was able to photograph the mature fruiting bodies. Here you can see the 'eggs' (peridioles) and the striations on the inside walls of the cups that give this fungus its common name. When raindrops fall into the cups the spore-filled 'eggs' are ejected. In this image you can see (top right) one 'egg' balanced on the wall of the fungus. My blip of the Immature fungus is here.
