The dropped stitch

By Bodkin

All in one day.....!

What a treat - a chance today to visit the American Museum, Bath and look at the quilts. So much to see in the house and gardens, but the quilts stole the show for me.

This, one of the Red Cross quilts, was made by a woman in Canada and sent to Britain for use by evacuees, soldiers and people whose homes had been bombed. It was hand pieced and hand quilted.

We walked in the sunshine back down the hill towards Bath and to the Smallcombe Garden Cemetery. This is a fascinating place and we only had time to look at a small part. An enthusiastic community group of volunteers is working to maintain the graves and research the lives of those buried here. They have produced a social history trail and a very informative website

In extras:
- nature in very close proximity to the ancient gravestones
- the Octagonal chapel built in 1860 in the Non-Conformist section of the graveyard
- the chain and anchor memorial of one William Moger, 1840 - 1905, Naval Commander and Captain of the Clio, a training ship.
