Couples, Dogs, Flowers, Photos
Another prewedding shoot today. I often take picture of the kids in the woods so I was eager to see how this would work with a couple. They brought along their lovely dog Spud who did his best to steal the limelight with his tricks and rugged good looks.
Turns out woods on a sunny day is actually pretty hard to shoot, especially with a 3rd dynamic of a dog. You just get tiny pockets of light and the rest is very dark so you spend a lot of time spot metering and missing things that would have made a good shot. Often I had Her face in light but His (not the biblical Him of course) in darkness so I was trying to adhoc over and under expose by eye.... not so good when the light was so bright on my lcd that I couldn't quite see the results. Oops. Another thing to note was that all the trees dont grow perfectly vertical meaning that some of the shots look pretty wonky.
It's a bit frustrating but all part of the learning I suppose. Im sure I could go back on a different day to a whole new set of challenges. I'm shooting somewhere else tomorrow so I'll have a chance to go through my feelings about today with the photographers on the way to the venue. I do hope Don managed to get a few good 'uns to back us up.
The couple however were lovely. Her parents own the land that surrounds the parklands so they knew the area like the back of their hands. We even went for a cheeky drink in the pub before coming home. Why not, on such a sunny day.
Totally forgot E had football afterschool and came to collect them all unprepared, resulting in me being conned by the kids into buying them some sweets from the rip off machine ;-)
Quick stop to tesco on the way home for their holiday sandals and what seemed like the most frustrating hour and a half as the shop filled with all the bank holidaying, beer drinking bbq-ers. It was like they decended on us in a flash and the shop was bursting at the seams and crazy queues.
Quick dinner and an evening dissecting todays shoot. Hmmm, gonna need more crisps to get through this I think.
Happy weekend! xx
