Visit to Walcott :,Organic fruit tree nursery

A group of us travelled by local bus, some walked, one cycled and a couple drove; it is Big Green Week after all. We were given a fascinating demonstration of grafting onto root stock - the whip method and the tongue method. All the fruit trees are grown on rootstock and organically. The table shows some examples of unusual or different varieties, that can be grown from trees purchased at the nursery, mostly apples, ( both dessert and cooking) pears, quince and medlars. We also got to taste any we liked: Bright Future, Worcester Pearmain, Red Devil.. such great names.
Then we walked home across the fields. Glorious out there. 10000 steps done before lunch. My walk ended by having to climb over a metal 5 bar gate :)
