Tree Lettuce

Not really, but that's what it looks like! It's actually lichen, which is one of the few bright green growths found in the forest right now, and since much of it grows on the trees, it is not hidden by snow. I have never seen any quite like this, especially ones that were so large.

It's amazing how many different types can be living on the same tree. I also think it's quite interesting that many of the same kinds of lichen can survive happily in diverse climates and environments all over the world.
