There are new purple flowers in my "meadow" pot. Maple trees are starting to turn. Goldenrod is blooming on the way to the park.

There is a video about the Icelandic wind storm we were NOT caught in because we were stopped by the police:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Oow2jZJYtg
The clips at the end are him joking. Being an American I didn't get that it was a joke at first.

Today I learned that licorice has many reputed and actual health benefits and that a lot of licorice candy is fake, made out of anise oil instead. The candy Kate and I got is from actual licorice root. I'll meet a co-worker tomorrow for lunch before we have a meeting and I'll bring candy to share  but not my licorice candy.

I also learned that Russia is giving its soldiers wraps rather than socks. ??? Apparently that used to be a thing and, wrapped correctly, can keep your feet properly warm.

There is a massive flight for the borders in Russia.

Russia is now the biggest donor to Ukrainia's military. Some is available immediately. Some has to be repaired first. Russia is donating tanks, other vehicles, and guns are great, but Ukraine had nearly run out of Soviet-standard artillery shells. Russia donated a large quantity. One battalion seized 10 modern T-80 tanks and five self-propelled howitzers on its way into Izyum.  "The Russians no longer have a firepower advantage. We smashed up all their artillery units before launching the offensive, and then we started to move ahead so fast that they didn't even have time to fuel up and load their tanks. They just fled and left everything behind."

It isn't all cutting edge, Russia was using pieces that should have been in a museum. But Ukraine got better stuff at Izyum, including T-90 tanks and BTR-82 vehicles with automatic cannons (no idea what an automatic cannon does, hope it is not like auto-correct). Ukrainians have learned how to operate the world's weapons so Russian systems are a breeze.

I saw two videos of Ukrainian soldiers dancing. This is them before they go to Lyman:  https://twitter.com/mrsorokaa/status/1575417836352290816?s=20&t=6hzrRYeYllr8LVpxC__U6g
