Now, as I see it......

Snow? No.

You'd be forgiven for thinking we've abandoned the heat of Turkey and headed somewhere cold and snowy, but you'd be wrong.  The white stuff isn't snow; it's travertine which is deposited all over the hills from the heavily saturated mineral waters in the mountain springs.  We've arrived at Pamukkale in the central part of the Aegean district where we stay for the next two nights.

But before that, we visited the ruins at Sardis Ancient City near where we stayed last night, and saw the main ruins followed by a visit to the Temple of Artemis.  I was intrigued to find a crane there which was shipped out in parts in 1911 to help with the excavations, from the steel company Dorman Long of Middlesbrough, the town where I grew up.  I shared some photographs of it on the Middlesbrough Facebook history page and it has got quite a few 'likes'!  I've added an extra of the Temple but if you want to see the crane you'll need to join the Memories of Middlesbrough Facebook page!
