St George’s Church
The building at the west end of Charlotte Square used to be known as St George’s Church. It is now West Register House part of the National Records of Scotland. We have a picture of my late mother in law being a bridesmaid on the steps of the then church.
I always think a bit about St Petersburg when I see this view. The statues in the foreground are, I think, William Pitt the Younger closer to us; and Dr Thomas Carlyle further away.
I was in the city centre to pass on the last of the club trophies so all now distributed.
Back home my efforts to write up the minutes from last night’s meeting were disrupted when my wife asked me to check her car. She and our son are heading south in it tomorrow. When I checked the (small) spare tyre I noticed that the anti-theft lock unit, used to go over the wheel bolts, was missing. The last time the wheels were off was at the last service. On the phone to the garage, a trip across town and a replacement was provided. Phew - and very reassuring.
Draft minutes were eventually finalised and I could help with sorting out things ahead of departure. Busy day.
