Living my dream

Bean had a fabulous morning snuffling about at J and T’s overgrown property, while 8 of us continued with the working bee which we started a couple of weeks ago.

Progress is glacially slow because we are hauling out metres and metres of wire, fencing, netting, wooden posts, old bedsteads, metal pipes, guttering and other sundry broken and rotten materials from overgrown grass.

It took us three hours to clear a 3 square metre area this morning and the four of us doing it were shattered when it was done.

It is a 2 acre property with dozens of square metres with similar detritus hidden beneath the undergrowth.

M, who has gallantly organised the working bee, was beginning to realise how much (little) of an impact we will be able to make in the three weekends set aside for the work.

The moral of this tale is don’t leave old junk lying around where it might become overwhelmed with weeds. J and T’s place is laudably chemical-free, but we were all dreaming of weed killer by the end of the morning.

I had a much gentler time at home after lunch - watering, weeding and taking Bean for a walk.

I have a friend staying tonight and I’ll comment on Blips when she’s left.
