Sailor in the wind

Because we’d set an alarm we of course woke before it went off (why does that always happen?!) and earlier than we needed, but had cups of tea whilst we came to and then got up and packed and ready for the off.
Another warm, windy and partly cloudy day, and we drove from Byron Bay to Lennox Head, a little south on the coast and where there was another stunning beach. We had brunch (delicious-and too much choice!) at a little place called Shelter right on the beach, then had a blowy walk along it. Spray was rising as far as we could see, giving the water’s edge a misty look. Once again despite lovely weather it was almost empty…so beautiful (I love beaches!)
Thought there were mussel shells all over but on closer inspection they were these Velella Velellas….or ‘By the wind sailors’ which we’d last seen in huge numbers on a Californian beach on the other side of this ocean. Not so many here, but still quite magical.
Back into the car and a couple of hours drive through pretty rolling countryside (including our first sight of wild kangaroos!) to Sawtell, a small town still on the coast and again on a miles long stretch of beautiful sandy beach. We walked around a bit after finding the (lovely) AirBnB place we’d booked, exploring the town and the beach. I managed to get a nail appointment to redo my nails that had annoyingly chipped, whilst K walked on the beach, then we had a happy hour cocktail (watching a wild Turkey wander along the pavement!) and came home for a bit of a chill and a chat to A as she sat in bed with her morning cup of coffee, then we went out for dinner. We should have booked at the place we liked the look of earlier, as it was full when we went back, it had a jolly supper in a Mexican restaurant instead which was tasty, chatting about the Cs and family choices, then home to call the grandchildren and catch up on their adventures.
Watched a piece of nonsense film about Australian wine and sheep country….good scenery is all we can say!
Off inland tomorrow…whilst dire warnings about floods are on the radio….should be an adventure!
