Times Gone By

These two bonny babes are my mum (on the right) and her twin sister, Auntie Helen (on the left). Today we stopped in to enjoy a fleeting visit with Auntie Helen, who is living in a care home in Derbyshire. We didn’t have as long as we would have liked as we had plans to meet up with Kevin in Lincolnshire at the famous but elusive Upton Fish and Chip Shop.
It is elusive because it is only open on Friday night and Saturday lunchtime and because Kevin won’t be living in Lincolnshire the next time we visit the UK, we had to try it out this time!

The fish and chips are fried in one of the last remaining coal fired ranges; the batter recipe is 70 years old; the fish is fresh from Grimsby (about 50 miles away) and it is fried in beef dripping. It definitely did live up to its reputation!
We had to queue outside as only one customer is allowed in at a time.

Then we drove to Kevin’s to relax (well, I did at least!) while Kevin and David both had work to do.
