This is the bridge that took us from the mainland out to Ile d Re'; we look out of our hotel window onto it.
We first came to this isle about 35 years ago when our children were small, it was very quiet and almost no cars (any cars were parked in a huge park at the edge of the town and everyone used bikes to get around). Today people still use bikes but like everywhere else the car is king and roads now criss cross the island.
The sea dominates here, there are salt pans across the island and fishing of one type or another is carried on. The extras show a man digging for worms at low tide and on the little jetty outside our window a man fishing for smelt - he caught enough in his net for a good supper.
