Iberian wilderness cat
Gosh, what a day. After a morning of wolf watching in the usual place and with just one sighting that most of us didn’t spot we drove towards the Picos de Europa. The extra is the view point close to the small village Camasobres where Tinos, the “Wolf Commissioner” observed this cat on the edge of the settlement. We watched it lounge, hunt and finally drift towards the woodland after about half an hour, plenty of time to get a reasonable blip. Behind us there was a golden eagle perched on one of the crags and to top the day off we saw a wall creeper. A new one to me, and incredibly beautiful a bit like an exaggerated butterfly with its black, red and white spotted wings. The birders in the group were very excited.
We got back to the Casa Rural just in time to see the one train a day which passes through the village from Bilbao to Burgos.
After a decent no choice home cooked meal and even more decent local wine I am ready to sleep, another pre dawn start in the morning and a full on last day in the mountains.
