Art Fan

CyclopsJnr has been really enjoying art at school.  The teacher has shown them lots of famous paintings, and they have even recreated some of them.  When he found out some of those paintings were in the National Gallery he was really keen to go - so we did!

He was excited to see Van Gogh's sunflowers (now the soup has been cleaned off and protesters unglued), but even more excited to see Monet's Water Lillies and Japanese Bridge which he just loved.

It's lovely to see him so excited about things he's discovered an interest in for himself (at school) and not from his parents - it's always hard to tell how much you influence your kids, even subconsciously.

We had lunch at the gallery (delicious) and when we came out we saw the Sea Cadets Trafalgar Day parade setting off from Trafalgar Square.  Lots of smart cadets marching, some senior officers giving the salute, and a very enjoyable performance by the Massed Bands of the Sea Cadet Corps.  A surprise treat.

Then it was time to head up to Soho for the main planned event of the day - a visit to Mary Poppins the musical.  It was wonderful and CyclopsJnr gave it his highest accolade when asked what he thought a the end.  "Loved it", he said with a big grin and two thumbs up.

The excitement had rather worn him out but he managed dinner in Chinatown (Dim Sum, Crispy Duck, Garlic Prawns) before we headed back to the hotel.
