Autumn
Travelling inland, into England, the autumn colours are more evident than they are at home on the coast. Colder nights most likely the reason. At the windmill (extra pic) the autumn cyclamen, Cyclamen hederifolium always catches my eye when I visit at this time of year. The sunlight breaking through the trees lighting them up beautifully this morning. Meg has really enjoyed exploring the garden and has also been wonderfully well behaved.
Between lazier moments, mooching round the garden and eating nice food, I spent the day working in this garden, weeding and digging over the vegetable patch. It's nice to be able to give a little back to friends who have done so much for me over the last few years.
Home early evening. The gentle winds from the east that were forecast are being funnelled through the mountains with the result that gales are howling here on the coast. While I ate tea I enjoyed an interesting zoom talk by a long term friend on Alpines of the Afromontane Archipelago. Who knew there are snow capped mountains almost on the equator in Africa. An interesting and very different flora to the Alps including a number of very long lived giants from familiar genera, heathers that grow into trees up to 60 feet tall and lobelias with flower spikes over 15 feet!
