A (really) difficult walk

We decided to walk from the villa, as it is the start and end point of a circular walk to the Curculla de Fartaritx, the mountain in the photo. It looks quite impressive!
We had found the beginning of the walk on Sunday, up to the spring. This has been made into a delightful infinity pool (see extra) and I was tempted to plunge in!
However we had a walk to do so we pressed on. The path is not marked in any noticeable way and we spent quite a while trying little goat tracks until we found some ancient oaks and knew we were on the right track. Up the hill through saw edged sedges, Rob got his legs badly scratched. Fortunately I had worn my longer trousers to keep off the mosquitoes. We climbed to a wall and crossed over.
The only information we had to guide us was some notes in Spanish translated by gooogle, walking the route in the opposite direction, the sketch map she had drawn, and Google to show us where we were.
We guessed we had to follow the foot of the cliff wall along to some distant peaks, so we set off following a track. This seemed to work ok, although it was rough going (see extra) with some obstacles in the way! We did find some delightful saffron crocus C. cambessedesii, in the rocks to make the struggle worth while. However the track disappeared again, and comparing our three bits of information it seemed we had missed a way of climbing the rock face to a pass. It was disconcerting to see several Griffon and Black Vultures circling overhead eyeing us up for lunch!
We turned back and from this direction we could see a slope that looked possible, and as we got to the foot of it there was even a painted arrow! The climb up was easy and at the top we were delighted to find much easier walking, although still through the sharp sedges. Another twenty minutes and we were at the top! A stunning view rewarded us, and a Swallowtail butterfly too.
After a bit of a rest we set off back down, as the circular route would have taken too long, even if we could have found it.
The vultures were joined by a group of Red Kites, still circling and watching, with ravens too. We didn’t lose the track on the way back, but the last mile down to the villa was hard work and we were glad to splash into our pool, following by a large and very welcome cocktail!
