Thursday: City Hall
I had a meeting with the Mayor today - City Hall is absolutely tiny. It’s quite charming but she did say that her aim was to have a City Hall that was more representative of the capital city.
The Mayor was very nice and we had a good chat. At some point I said something that struck a chord as the Mayor leapt up and said to her secretary outside: ‘Miss Johnson, you must come in here and take good notes. Booky Goatherd is saying some really interesting things’. Well, Miss Johnson, who can’t have been more than 25 (which surprised me as ‘Miss’ is usually used as a mark of respect for the older generation) appeared with pen and notebook after which I never really got another word in. Miss Johnson just sat with her pen hovering and a look of abject disappointment on her face, probably wondering what all the fuss had been about.
Continuing in our duty to King and Country we tried another bottle of supremely horrid wine tonight (see yesterday).
