Golden Lane
A warm October day - ideal for a walk round one of the local woods looking for fungi. But the continuing dry weather is still having an impact, and I saw fewer species than on my last visit, a fortnight ago. Despite the general paucity, I was pleased to find the first few Magpie Inkcaps appearing (see extra) - such very striking mushrooms.
On my way home I walked down one of the local green lanes. The Field Maple is really starting to turn colour, and provided a golden frame to the veteran oaks that are a feature of this part of John Clare Countryside.
