Cufflinks

I left Kirkby Lonsdale on Thursday morning, knowing that I needed to plan for the trip to Liverpool and then on to Copenhagen. Consequently, I had given a little more thought to my planning than usual, and I had even thought that I mustn't forget to pack some cufflinks. But I did.

Thus, at lunchtime, the Minx and I went for a wander around a nearby part of Copenhagen that we'd yet to visit, which she;d discovered had a couple of vintage shops. The first one was a little disappointing - two not very attractive sets - but the second had a nice selection and one pair that the Minx immediately fell in love with. I was a little slower on the uptake but she was absolutely right.

And, mission accomplished, we headed back to work.

It's been a funny old week, actually. As we did in Greece, we've been working during the day, and we've managed to get out for a walk most lunchtimes, but it's been too dark to do much sightseeing in the evenings. We're agreed we need to come back for a proper holiday.

That said, I have really enjoyed being here, and this evening we* got chatting to the owner of a bar. I was interested in the lack of homelessness, and the apparent lack of poverty generally. Our host told us that tax here is around 55% but that everyone is taken very good care of and also how, for example, the state will pay at anytime you want to re-enter education or training.

Now, I've never been a small state/low tax kind of guy, but nor have I been particularly passionate about paying high amounts of tax. This week, though, is making me think again. Is everyone here so happy simply because they don't have the grinding concerns that so many people face in the UK?

In other news, I was delighted to see the vicious, psychopathic Suella Braverman get the push, yesterday. And I was equally pleased today to see the incompetent Liz Truss admit she wasn't up to the job. Still, in 45 days, she and Karteng have managed to completely undermine the free market arguments that come out of 55 Tufton Street. God willing, that's the end of them. (Inevitably, like the Communists and Brexiteers, they will come back with the argument that they were right, actually, but their arguments weren't implemented correctly. Idiots.)

*The Minx, obviously. I did join in a bit.
