Out and about around Bajawa

On the moped, ofcourse.

The local volcano towers in all directions. The big attraction here is traditional villages: sadly, a Disney feel after the wilds out east, with ikat full of chemical dye, snobs that we are, in front of every house. It is interesting, but no guide or information to be found locally. The more lived in villages are as interesting: the traditional integrated into the new - a football field come buffalo sacrifice area. We still only see 2 other couples however, although there are forlorn groups of bussed tourists wondering around town. They look miserable.

We head on towards the sea with our moto. And on, and on. Sometimes the road is smooth tarmac, others pure gravel. Eventually it gives up and we're on a footpath that has never been tarmacked. And then hardly that. We're told its 10km to make the loop and re-join the main road. We give it a go for 2.5km - and turn back. The bike is sliding on stones and between tall grass. Not even Ul's long legs can control it, and I refuse to get on. We almost make it to the sea, and can see it tantalizingly below us.

Just as well. Turns out we had a puncture and wanted lunch. We limp home gratefully.
