day in port

back blip

today would have been my dads birthday. we have thought about him a lot on this trip as he sailed on the maiden voyage of the QE2 he fitted the first ship sat nav
we are in the port of Tromso. It is warmer than other towns as it sits near the Gulf Stream.It was used as a base one time as a base for walrus and seal hunters and explorers.
today we did a tour entitled The Polaris and Artic Cathedral The bells were being rung as we walked into the Cathedral. It doesnt seem to be used for sunday services. As we walked out of the cathedral we were  greeted by a rainbow over the ship. The polar is an aquarium which uses some beared seals which were rescued and 2 harbour seals which was born in captivity.
We were woken at 2am by the captain announcing that the aurora was at the aft of the ship. we didnt get up but it took me till 5am to get back to sleep.
A lazy afternoon. In the evening we went on deck and mother nature treated us to a display of the Northern Lights
