No Apologies
For another crocus!
But it was a very close call, the still waters on our afternoon walk made for eye-catching reflections - extra pic. A very warm day for the time of year, and a decent dose of sunshine. After a very slow start, tired after a busy few days, I spent a fair bit of time just mooching in he greenhouse, appreciating the nice things in there and adding notes to labels, details to help me decide what to keep, what to plant out and what to sell. I also removed the last of the automatic vents and replaced it with a simple manual one. Sounds simple but it's made challenging by the narrow gap between glass and frame where the nut end of the nuts and bolts has to be connected. Add in having to stand on a chair and needing three hands plus my innate ability to put things together back to front .... it was warm work in more ways than one! Tweezers and blue tack were instrumental in helping me overcome the difficulties.
Crocus goulimyi var leucanthus. Typical goulimyi is purple, this pale form, often beautifully bicoloured, is especially nice I think. The species has distinctively spoon shaped petals which give it an elegant look as the flowers open wide. It's quite happy in the open garden but here the flowers took a terrible battering in recent gales.
