Today we cruised down the River Thames to visit Greenwich and the old Royal Naval College. A wonderful complex containing amazing sights within.
Featured is the Tulip Staircase and as an extra I have added a photo looking up the stairs to a view of the Painted Hall. Skittle Alley and the Chapel of St Peter and St Paul were also highlights.
Before taking the light rail back to the city we walked through the foot tunnel from one side of the Thames to the other - and back again. It was refreshingly cool giving respite from the hot day above ground!
An enjoyable evening eating pizza with G & M was a lovely end to our brief visit to London.
The Tulip Stairs - “these are the first centrally unsupported stairs in England, copying a Venetian model. The stone treads lock perfectly into each other and the wall, requiring no central structure”
The Painted Hall - “was designed in early 18th century by Sir James Thornhill. It features 40,000 square feet of walls and ceilings.
