Snaphappydays

We were both awake early enough to enjoy sunrise at 5:45. After breakfast we left KK at 8am in the capable hands of our guide Danson and driver Safri. Danson is a fount of all knowledge - botanical , cultural, political etc, so the 3 hr drive up to Mount Kinabalu passed quickly … despite the slow lorries and potholed roads! We stopped at Nabalu, for a comfort break and the most stunning view across ( above) to Mt Kinabalu at 4095 m. Then onto Poring ( a type of fast growing bamboo) for a ‘local lunch ‘ before climbing up steeply through the rainforest to the canopy walk, which freaked us both out a little, as it wobbled and wasn’t high enough on my 6ft son to stop him thinking he’d topple over the edge, and I couldn’t enjoy the view especially when the locals were bouncing across it… but we made it. Danson’s flora and fauna knowledge is excellent. He and I then headed to a nearby waterfall , whilst Rory headed to the hot springs pools. We avoided the rain although heard thunder all afternoon, until we left Poring when the heavens opened very appropriately! Now at Kinabalu Park over night in a suite upgrade each :)
