The Bluebell carpet
This morning, before work, I made a trip to Halle's Wood on the outskirts of Brussels to see one of Belgium's best kept secrets. From late April to early May a few acres of woodland are covered by a wonderful carpet of wild bluebell hyacinths. I wasn't able to get here last year and so many people from work have been this year that I was determined to visit this time. The first thing that struck me as I wondered through the forest was the smell of the flowers as it was quite overpowering. The sheer natural beauty is also something to behold and I was fortunate enough to be there early before too many people arrived so I could enjoy the peace and flowers on my own.
