Boxing Hares
Hamish Mackie’s ‘Boxing Hares’ Sculpture at Guildhall Square in Southampton.
This morning we took a final walk around the city - visiting this sculpture in front of the guild hall, walking past ruins, one ruin being the Holyrood Church which is a memorial & garden dedicated to those who served in the merchant navy and lost their lives at sea. It also holds a fountain in memory of lives lost in the sinking of the Titanic.
Then our feet took us through the Mayfair waterfront park, a small garden/park of French species commemorating the arrival of French Huguenot refugees 300 years ago, the gardens of Queens Park Terrace followed by a refreshing drink in what was originally the old Wool House, built in the late 14th century to store wool for exporting to The Continent and now a boutique brewery/bar/restaurant.
Then it was back to the hotel to collect our luggage and meet the taxi delivering us to our ‘home’ for the next ten nights.
Another exciting adventure and new discoveries await us.
