Upstairs, downstairs

I thought this was intriguing and therefore deserved a blip.

This unit is high on the wall in the kitchen of my friend's house. It isn't used now but is in full working order even though it's hidden high above and behind a very fancy American fridge/freezer.

Each main room and bedroom in his house has a little electric button that, when pressed, caused one of the circles on this panel to shake and the bell (you can just see it far right) to ring.

In days gone by, the housekeeper would see who was ringing and attend to them.

I think this is a wonderful reminder of how times were - and not so long ago!
