The Long and Winding Road

I was unable to get to sleep until after 2:00 am for some reason. That made it a bit hard to get up around 6:00 am. Hubby left his rain jacket at the neighbor’s yesterday. Thankfully, she was awake at 7:45 when we got to her home. Rather than back track, we continued on an alternate route home. The roads were very windy, narrow, without guard rails or shoulders and along the edge of the ridges. This photo doesn’t give you an adequate view of the constant curves around the ridges. At one point, we had traveled 14 miles in 42 minutes. But they were smoothly paved for the most part which is a bonus. Our GPS sent us through the WVU campus in Morgantown when we finally got off the back roads, not the best “fork in the road” choice. It tried to put us on weird routes all the way home. We had rain on and off for the entire trip, heavy rain with heavy traffic at times. As you might guess, this was not a stress free trip in the passenger seat. I feel bad for hubby who has had to drive for hours in less than optimum conditions. Thankfully, we had less traffic than those going in the opposite direction until we were just under two hours from home. Now we are sitting in stop and go traffic. My sister and BIL left 15 minutes after us and are home already. We always make more stops than them. For some reason, it took an extra long time to be serviced at the restaurant at lunch and that experience added 1.5 hours to the trip. Lunch was delicious though and we won’t need dinner. Guess I will take a nap until we get home; fading fast. Thanks for the visit. I will make a strong effort to catch up on your journals. Just read that our hospitals are filling up rapidly. Stay safe and well. “Life takes up one long, winding road to fulfill its seemingly endless journey. And when we find ourselves stumble upon forks in the road, we (must) choose wisely.” - Amani Abbas
