Polesden tulips

My sister and I left our menfolk pottering at home and visited nearby Polesden Lacey. We went on a guided tour of the house and learnt about the society hostess who used to live there. In the 1920s Mrs Greville entertained politicians, entertainers, high society and royalty. She furnished the house with the very best from all over Europe in order to impress her guests. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth spent part of their honeymoon there.

I wonder whether there were tulips as stunning as these in those days?
