The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway (GWR, GWSR or Gloucs-Warks Steam Railway) is a volunteer-run heritage railway which runs along the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire border.

So far the GWR had reopened a total of 12 miles in length (along the closed railway line) between the site of Laverton Halt and Cheltenham Racecourse railway station and is currently extending to Broadway, Worcestershire.

Called in to use the cafe in Winchcombe Station and two steam trains called in heading each way this loco 5542 was rescued from Barry Scrapyard in 1975 and moved to the West Somerset Railway for restoration.

Wheel arrangement 2-6-2T - known as 'small prairie' tank engines.
No 5542 was built in July 1928 and features the larger wheels, sloping tank tops and outside steam pipes characteristic of the later versions.
It wighs in at 61 tons.
The other steam train was painted in War Department Black and did not have the same presence as this one if your in the area the station tea room is worth a visit and if you time it right you' can sit out in the sun and enjoy the noise and power of a steam loco but also note they run historic diesel units as well on this line.
