Tongland Power Station

Today's the day .................. for a new coat

As I said a few weeks ago, work has started on a £2m refurbishment and upgrade of the Tongland Hydro Power Station by Operators Drax .  Well, I went past it today and they've made a good start.

There are lots of men in orange boiler suits on scaffolding and the base of the round tower is beginning to be shrouded in a big white plastic cuff.  There's a big notice warning that 'Entry is restricted - Danger - Blasting in progress ....'  I'm hoping this is of the sand-blasting variety rather than the sort they do in quarries?  And then, apparently, the exterior walls will receive a new concrete coating and a layer of mineral-based paint to 'protect the integrity of the building for decades to come'.
