My Old School

How often do you hear an audience spontaneously applaud at the end of a film?

But they did tonight at the showing of My Old School, a documentary about a 32-year-old man who returned to his old school Bearsden Academy, Glasgow posing as a 16 year old.

Known as Scotland’s greatest hoaxer it is a true and unbelievable story of a man who wanted to become a doctor.

There is plenty of  Glasgow humour in it and it was followed by a Q and A session with some of the former pupils, who had taken part in the film, talking about their memories of Brendon Lee.

What comes across is that peoples memories of events rarely coincide especially when dealing with a character like Brendon Lee who had weaved so many tales about his own life starting with his mother being an opera singer and father a professor of zoology. In reality his mother was a care worker and father a lollipop man.

It’s an extraordinary film, and highly recommend it.
