An exciting prospect.
Arnside is on the southern bank of the Kent Estuary. The small town of Grange over Sands is on the north side.
As the crow flies it is not much more than 3 miles between them.
But to get from one to the other by foot, bicycle or car is a journey of about 12 miles inland and then out again.
The two places are linked by a railway viaduct. When this was upgraded about ten years ago provision was made for hanging a footway along one side of it.
Talks are now taking place about putting this footpath on the side of the viaduct and building a footpath / cycleway along the north bank to Grange.
It would also fill the gap in the 182 mile Cumbrian coastal footpath.
We have just come back from a public consultation in the village hall. There is almost total support for the scheme. But of course it may not be a good time to find the funding.
At the age of 87 I can only hope that I might live long enough to walk across it. Or at least be pushed across in a wheelchair by my family ( hint, hint ).
My extra shows a map of the proposed scheme.
