Inspired by a mossy stone

‘A rolling stone gathers no moss’. This stone hasn’t been anywhere recently, by the looks of it.
It set me thinking about proverbs learnt in my junior school. ‘Look before you leap’; ‘A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush’; Don’t count your chickens before they are hatched’ and my sister’s favourite, ‘Kind words butter no parsnips’. I’m not sure I understood the last one but we used to call the roast parsnips ‘kind words’.
