A lunch gathering celebrating two November birthdays with one of our favorite Veterans! Thank you for serving our country, Marianne; Happy Birthday Lynn; Happy Birthday to me!
I could explain volumes about these three friends:
I’ve known Lynn since 1975 when Mr. Fun & I went looking for a church to get married in again on our tenth wedding anniversary. Our two lives were going nowhere and we were accomplishing nothing; getting loaded every Friday and Saturday night with a several other married couples. We were fairly surprised to still be married and we were still very much in love. In the 10 years since our “shotgun” wedding, all of our friends had gotten married and then gotten divorced. At the church that had a long wide center aisle, perfect for a wedding, we found a group of very friendly young married couples and we found a Savior that we had grown-up knowing about, but we really didn’t know Him. Lynn & her husband Al had been going to that church for about a year and we became good friends with them. Lynn has now been a widow for approximately 12 years. Al died 12 years ago from complications caused by being sprayed with Agent Orange in Vietnam.
We’ve known Karen since 1980 when she started going to church where we were going. There she met and married her first husband Jim and the four of us became close friends. Jim died in 2005 from a brain aneurysm. Karen remarried 14 months later to another of our good church friends, Dick. His wife had died from cancer 18 months previously.
We’ve known Annie (Marianne) and her hubby Michael since autumn 1985 when I met Michael — he was my math professor and I was a re-entry community college student. Michael & Annie started coming to church. I continued in school, transferred to the university, earned a Master’s Degree in English, and was hired full-time at the same community college where Michael was employed, so we became colleagues as well as friends.
“A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.” Proverbs 27:9
