The Candleriggs and Ramshorn Kirk

Sunshine was nowhere to be seen today and it seemed a good opportunity on my way to the station to capture the attractive street in the Merchant City called the Candleriggs. The flat lighting meant that both sides of the street were evenly illuminated.
Here candlemakers used to work centuries ago, at a safe distance from the crowded tenements of High Street. At the junction with Ingram Street, stands the Ramshorn Kirk which now serves as a venue for lunchtime concerts and amateur dramatics. A cherry tree in full bloom in the car park opposite has its laden branches of white blossom spilling over into the scene.
This is a wonderful area for restaurants and boutiques. The facade of the refurbished City Halls is on the right - home to the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and reputed to have the best acoustics of all concert venues in the city.

I have used the Photoshop artistic poster edges filter to give some bite to the windows, stonework and paving stones.
