Floods and famine......

Another very wet day. When I emptied the rain gauge first thing it had 90 mm in it for the last week. When I checked it tonight we have had 35 mm today alone !
It was fun going round feeding cattle this morning. Not only was it a feat of speed to squelch through the mud to the troughs before they arrived to flatten you into the glaur, but by the time I'd finished I was soaked to the skin ,despite the waterproofs.
A quick change of clothes, left the wet stuff draped over the Aga to dry, then a morning spent in a meeting with the CA.
The accounts didn't look too bad,but the problem is you are working a year behind on the past financial year. I dread to think what the next year's books will look like as input costs far outweigh any rise in the prices of beef or lamb.
Had to nip into town to collect Littlemiss from school as Mrs F will be working late. A lot of surface water and flooded roads,so avoided the city bypass at all costs.
We nipped in to a Tesco on the way home for a few things.
This was the egg shelf. Not really a surprise. The supermarkets may try to blame avian flu for shortages, but by far the biggest problem is that they insist on screwing the price they pay to producers as low as they can, while rising shelf prices have no bearing on what the producers receive. Input costs for all sectors of agriculture have sky rocketed, with feed prices and labour shortages caused by the Tories Brexit disaster especially noticeable in sectors like pig and poultry .
But what would I know, it's all due to COVID and the war in Ukraine according to Downing Street. Funny how the rest of Europe had COVID and the war in Ukraine, but they aren't in as big a shambles as the UK
Only saying ! Rant over....
