Mexico Day 13

Mexico day 13

The good news is that Keith had his op this morning and was stable when we last had news.

It was another early start. First we visited a family who made hammocks. They made a good presentation of the weaving of them and how to use them. Of course they were for sale but we didn’t buy. We still have the sturdy one we bought in Venezuela.

Next we drove to Izamal to see a Franciscan monastery. All the buildings in the town were painted the same yellow colour for a Pope’s visit in 1993. Those that were still maintained looked very attractive.

Next we went to swim in a cenote, a deep pool surrounded by jungle. To reach it we had to descend many slippy steps then go in by ladder. It was delightfully cool on a hot day and refreshing after a bad night’s sleep - we both have coughs which others in the group who also have it think is due to the aircon. (Covid tests are negative).

Now we are at a hotel 5 minutes drive from Chichen Itza, the last Mayan ruin of our trip which we’ll visit in the morning. After that it’s the airport and a night flight to Gatwick from where we have to get to Heathrow for the flight home.
