Holiday Cactus
This plant never disappoints. It is the oldest of four, probably at least 15 years old. It is always the first to flower, but my others aren't far behind. :-) Many thanks to BikerBear for continuing to host Flower Fridays!
This morning I was driving down a four-lane highway (speed limit 45 mph) when I saw an obviously homeless person walking in the right lane with the traffic. She had a light blanket over her shoulders and plastic bags over her shoes. The road was slushy from last night's snow and the temperature was 21F. Cars were passing her without even slowing down. I couldn't stop because of traffic but I circled back as soon as I could. She had just passed a side road, so I put down my window and shouted to her to go back to the road and I would give her a ride. She was thrilled. I opened the door for her and she thanked me many times for picking her up. Her only belongings were rolled in a blanket she was carrying. I asked what I could do for her and she said I could drop her off at Target (department store) about a mile down the road. She was freezing so I blasted the heat. When I parked at Target, I asked what she needed but she said she was just going in to get warm. I gave her what cash I had in my wallet, and she didn't want to take it because she said I had been too kind already. I insisted, and she gave me a big hug and got out of the car. All day I've been feeling guilty because I feel I should have done more for her. I wonder where she is now that it's dark and 14F. I'm very sad. Her name is Audrey. Please say a prayer or send warm thoughts for her.
I am grateful for all that I have. I keep thinking, "There but for the grace of God go I".
