Memories of Bali
This is a painting we have in our kitchen from a trip to Bali many, many years ago. I took it down today in preparation for decorators on Tuesday.
I love this style of painting and this particular painting is very delicately executed and was purchased from an actual Art Gallery in UBUD for about £40 in 1999( quite an expensive souvenir for then as it was not mounted). It is approximately A3 size. This was our second trip to Bali …on that trip we took our children in the Easter Holidays and went to Hong Kong, then Port Douglas in Australia, then flew to Sydney and drove to Melbourne via Canberra and back via Bali! A great trip. Very few people who go to Australia seem to visit Canberra; we found it really interesting and stayed on a ranch which had kangaroos en route.
We also have another much bigger Balinese painting which we bought, before children, on our first trip there…much cheaper by a street artist who painted each day outside our hotel…and it’s less intricate. Maybe a blip for another day.
I don’t think we are likely to go to Bali again…on our second trip we found it so much more commercialised and not so friendly so by now it will be even more so I guess.
I have however managed to sort a week in Alderney for next August as the flights have just been released and as there are only two 16 seater flights each day you have to be quick!
The family came for lunch and we got one of our video players working and had a look at some school productions which my daughter was in. The quality of the picture was quite poor unless it was a closeup but the sound was good. I think it’s partly to do with the TV being more sophisticated technology. I now need to go through more to see what is worth keeping and I may investigate having some transferred to DVD.
The other video player chewed a tape so that will be going to the library tomorrow to the recycling bin they have there!
