Diary of an Edinburgher

Krakow Day Four

Woke this morning and realised that my calf muscles were VERY SORE! I knew all those hundreds of steps down, all at once, for about 10 minutes non stop, into the Salt Mines, was not going to be without effect. I could hardly move! And going down stairs was definitely NOT ON today!

After breakfast we set off to walk to the Wawel Castle, which is nearby. We just walked round the grounds, not into the castle itself. We saw the big dragon, but it wasn’t breathing fire when we were there, sadly. Though I’ve just read that it’s at five minute intervals. I’ve included a shot of the scooters, hundreds of ‘em, though I have only seen a couple of people actually using them.and they’re not usually tidy like this, they’re left all over the place. The giraffes are part of the Christmas decorations, which are being put up round town.

We had a saunter into town, and happened by the little French cafe we had been in a couple of days ago, where JR thought she had left her good leather gloves. No, they weren’t there…

We then went to the main square to visit the cathedral and to hear the on-the-hour bugler. Though we didn’t see him.

I then came back to the hotel, while JR browsed a bit more. I thought that a nice soak and pounding in the pool would aid my calf recovery. But it didn’t really help much…

Later, we wandered down to the cocktail bar again, as we couldn’t be bothered going out again. We had some delicious Panko Prawns. A chap sitting up at the bar, had an incredible whisky based cocktail, served in a ‘pipe’ glass. I took a photo, and the barman said he’d do it with dry ice, for an even better photo, but then realised he didn’t have any…

So, an early night, and an early morning tomorrow - we’re going to Zakopane in the Tatras Mountains. It’ll be a whole day trip, so I hope it’s not misty, as it was today. (8,528 steps)
