Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2022 Friday — These Two!

Today lunch was a treat to us from Jack, our financial advisor. He’s on the left in my photo. He knew we were in SoCal, so he scheduled a date with us to meet to eat. When we got to his Orange County office, his car was being cleaned and detailed. When the car guy was finished with Jack’s car, Jack asked if he would wash our car as well and paid for that service; what a treat.

We’ve been friends with Jack for 40+ years. When we were Junior High School Counselors at our church years ago, Jack was in the youth group; he was along for summer weekly beach trips, weekend retreats, summer camps, weekly Bible rap, and Sunday night youth group. He was always a leader and always a delight to be with. He grew-up, graduated from high school, and then from college, and began a career in construction. He was the general contractor for the building that became the Spaghetti Factory in the town east of our town. The building is wonderful, but Jack learned that his abilities in the financial realm are even better than construction, and financial managing is what he’s been doing for the past 25 years.

We were sure that Jack was managing our retirement funds well, but it was our CPA who was doing the paper work for our 2008 taxes when he casually looked up from the papers he was working on and quietly said, “I don’t know who manages your funds, but he has done a superb job on your investments. I’ve seen many people this tax season who have lost everything.” That was confirmation for what we already knew.

We rarely do business with friends, but the combo of friendship and business with Jack have been a blessing. Jack honors us like a mom and a dad. He tells us all the time we are family. That relationship started years ago when Jack was a kid from a broken home in our junior high church youth group.

Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
