Today's the day ....................... to fell

We came upon this sad sight today - a huge (beech) tree which must have blown down in recent gales, in a tangled heap on the field.

I imagine it must have been a terrifying spectacle when it happened - and a lucky escape that it fell this way and not right across the road.  But it's always heart-breaking to see the destruction of such a magnificent force of nature.

It will have been witness to many a change over the years in its long life ................
