Karongwe
The lovely nephew gave up his afternoon to take me to Karongwe, a nearby game reserve where the family have a shared cottage which allows them to visit anytime. Y wasn't feeling up to the drive - bumping about in a landrover isn't terribly comfortable and she goes quite often, so I went on my own. We had a wonderful three hours and saw some amazing animals - the lazy lion and his ladies were sleeping happily, the young elephants were rushing about, flapping ears and generally showing off and the bigger one came right up to the vehicle, inspected the front, sniffed at us and wandered off. Absolutely amazing experience. We saw many baby impala, young wildebeest, buffalo etc - spring is definitely here in South Africa with many youngsters being born.
The lions gave us a roaring send off - sounds travels in the African night and as we left Karongwe we could hear them. Many fire flies around and we saw a porcupine as we left. Fantastic afternoon/evening.
