POWER CUT

We were warned that the power would be off from 7 till 8 in the evening due to upgrading. It was cut at 5:30 yesterday morning and only came on at 8:30 in the evening. I am not complaining because as I type this there is a radio report that people on the West Rand have been without power for 5 days due to cable theft.
Here the paraffin lamps, candles, matches and torches are always on hand in case the power goes off during a storm. We have a gas hob and of course there is the Welcome Dover wood stove.
This power outage also affected the supply of water which was reduced to a trickle. Fortunately we have the furrow flowing through the garden and have a rain water tank for drinking water.
A friend of ours has just built a home for himself in Prince Albert and he is able to store solar power and is completely independent.Quite an expensive option!
