Visit...
………………........…..to Zealandia
Zealandia is an ecosanctuary, right in the heart of Wellington, NZ.
Today we visited this wonderful fully fenced oasis which is home to native flora and fauna. Within the fenced area there are 32km of walking tracks and an upper and lower dams/lakes - and of course the sound of bird songs fill the air.
The main photo is the Kaka, a large brown parrot with orange under its wings. They are nationally vulnerable, but thriving in this environment.

North Island Robin / Toutouwai
A small bird, often found at ground level, searching through leaf litter. And happy to visit while we sat and ate our lunch.
Saddleback / Tieke
Black bird with orange saddle and red wattle. Once extinct on the mainland but now thriving in this sanctuary. We watched this bird foraging on the forest floor beside the track.
Tuatara
A reptile considered a ‘living fossil’ This young Tuatara was motionless, semi hidden amongst surrounding growth.
