Redundant
A little sunshine first thing, but by the time we reached Leathley, near Otley, for the start of our walk with the Pudseys it was dull and dreary yet again.
Didn’t dampen our spirits though and we really enjoyed the walk and company.
Fortunately Brenda had recced the walk yesterday and found the path through Riffa Woods was impassable as the beck had overflowed. Only way is across the steppingstones and these were under a foot or more of water.
So a slight diversion and we ended up at the little church of St Mary’s in Stainburn. Our usual lunch stop.
The church dates from the 12th Century with the Bellcote and porch added in the 17th century.
Unfortunately it became redundant in 1975 and the Grade 1 listed building is now looked after by the Churches Conservation Trust.
Open to the public most days, and very well kept.
We managed to get back to the car before the rain started.
How lucky was that!
